Officially established in 1683 and named for the original Middlesex County in southeast England, Middlesex County, NJ is midway between New York and Philadelphia as well as Boston and Washington, DC. Middlesex County has such a rich and storied past that it is very likely that something that occurred or originated in Middlesex County has touched the life of almost every person on the planet. While only 318 square miles in size, the County has left a huge footprint on history.
As of the 2013 Census, Middlesex County’s population was 828,919. New Brunswick is the county seat and home to Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Middlesex County ranks 63rd among the highest income counties with a median household income of nearly $76,848, and residents enjoy a number of commuting options. New Jersey Transit trains travel along the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley Lines, while every township in Middlesex County is served by bus routes. The New Jersey Turnpike takes Interstate 95 through the center of the county and nine exits of the Garden State Parkway are on the county’s eastern edge.
